Statement by the Director of National Intelligence on the Confirmation of I. Charles McCullough III as Inspector General of the Intelligence Community

Nov. 8, 2011

On behalf of the entire Intelligence Community, I am pleased to announce that last night, the Senate confirmed I. Charles McCullough III to be the Inspector General (IG) of the Intelligence Community.

An experienced and independent inspector general is essential for the Intelligence Community, and Chuck’s experience in the Inspector General’s Office here and at NSA, the Treasury Department’s Office of General Counsel, as well as his service in the Justice Department, is considerable and will serve both him and the Intelligence Community well as he takes on the responsibilities of this office.

I would also like to thank Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Dianne Feinstein and Vice Chairman Saxby Chambliss, for their essential leadership during the confirmation process.

Congratulations to Chuck and his family. I look forward to his leadership and oversight in ensuring the highest standards of accountability across the Intelligence Community.
